A critique of building a developmental state in the EPRDF's Ethiopia

This article explores the main features of Ethiopia's ‘developmental state’ and takes a critical look at how model is applied in practice, capturing parallels contradictions through comparative evidence with that East Asia model. Accordingly, it notes Asian has strong ideological influence on Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) regime, allowing to formulate vision development, but this, although contributed economic growth, failed ensure democracy stability country. It argues land grabbing political instability are biggest threats development prospects.
